How Dental Implants Can Prevent Premature Aging

Posted on 10/10/2018 by Sergio Ortegon
How Dental Implants Can Prevent Premature AgingYou may not realize it, but the dental structures in your mouth actually help keep you looking young and healthy. Your teeth do so much more than simply providing a way to grind up food and help you to speak.

As such, if you have lost one or more teeth, you need to be aware of how getting dental implants can help you to avoid prematurely aging.

The Role of Teeth—And What Happens When They Go

Your teeth do more than chew food. They help provide the framework for your face. In fact, if you lose a tooth, over time the gum tissue where it was affixed will begin to deteriorate.

Even worse, the bone below that will begin to shrink away. Over time, a missing tooth can result in significant alteration of the bone structure in your face. And, as you know, the bones in your face are what give it its shape.

Once the bone structure below the facial tissue has started to waste away, your face will have a sagging or drooping look. This, in turn, will lead to significant development of wrinkles and other issues.

How Can Dental Implants Help?

Fortunately, there is a way to prevent this from happening. If you lose a tooth, you can have a dental implant fashioned and installed in its place. A dental implant is essentially a ceramic "tooth” that is affixed to a metal "root” which, in turn, has been grafted into your jawbone.

The presence of this "tooth” will stimulate the gum and bone tissue in your mouth. This, in turn, keeps the bone from deteriorating. The result is a facial structure which remains unchanged—and without all the premature wrinkles.

So, if you have lost a tooth, consider getting dental implants. You'll be glad you did.
