How to Heal Denture Sores the Best

Posted on 5/25/2018 by Sergio Ortegon
Dentures Ortegon Prosthodontics TX 77401Sometimes when you get a new set of dentures, they may be somewhat painful. When this happens, you'll need to come see us so we can make adjustments.

However, if you feel around your gums and find that they're puffy, inflamed, or swollen, it's possible that you may have a denture sore. This is something that may require antibiotics for curing the infection.

Home Remedies for Denture Sores

There are a few things you can do to treat your denture sores at home while you're waiting for your appointment with us. The first thing you'll want to try is using a soft-bristled toothbrush for your gums, teeth, and dentures. It's important that you continue brushing so that bacteria don't live on these surfaces causing plaque to form.

Baking soda and warm water on your toothbrush combined with soaking your dentures for a few hours works well here. Make sure you rinse your dentures well before you wear them again though.

Besides caring for your dentures, look at how you eat. If you chew too fast you can cause shock to the nerves under your dentures. This is something that many people who are new to dentures struggle with. When this happens, you can try massaging your gums to make them feel better. You can also use cloves soaked in olive oil and applied directly to your gums topically.

Doing this around the areas where the sore spots are will help alleviate pain. You can also gargle with some sage tea for more immediate results. These are just a few of the home remedies you can try to alleviate your denture sores.

However, you'll still need to make an appointment with us. Once we get you a set of dentures we'll work hard to make sure you're comfortable. Call us today to start this process.
