Why Choose a Crown Over a Filling?

Posted on 1/20/2018 by Sergio Ortegon
Dental Crown Ortegon Prosthodontics TX 77401Your oral health is a top priority for us. Making sure your teeth stay strong is the best way to make sure you can keep them as long as possible. Oral hygiene practices every day is very important to make sure tooth decay is avoided. Tooth decay can lead to infection, and can affect your overall health.

We recommend that you brush your teeth twice a day, and floss once a day to get as much bacteria and food particles off surface areas and in between teeth as possible. Coming in for regular six-month checkups for cleanings and exams can help keep things under control, and keep you up to date on where you are at.

It turns out that no one is perfect, and things can happen. Knowing where to go from there is always helpful. Here are some things to think about when deciding whether to get a filling or a crown.

When to Get a Filling or a Crown

Making sure you make the right decision can be intimidating. The thing you should remember is that you want to make sure your tooth has enough protection for everyday activities. A filling can be a good option for a small cavity. One that has not really affected the structure of your tooth. That filling can close up the small space, and you will be able to go about your day. Sometimes cavities can be on the larger size, or in between teeth where there is a higher risk for infection.

Deciding to go with a crown will most likely be your best option. The crown will act as a cap over your existing tooth, and protect it from further problems. It will also give it the extra strength it needs for chewing. The main thing is that you will be able to keep that tooth. Making sure you seal up the cavity can keep your root stronger, and will save your tooth from being pulled.

We will definitely help you make the best decision between a filling or a crown. We will go over with you what we think is necessary to make sure you are healthy and happy. We encourage you to contact us for any questions or concerns regarding your oral health.

If you are experiencing any kind of pain or discomfort you should call us, and get in as soon as possible. Please do not hesitate to let us fix a problem for you. We look forward to hearing from you, and can't wait to get your smile back on track.
