Dental Implants can Improve Your Quality of Life

A diagram of how a dental implant works.Anyone who has lost a tooth can tell you how much it has affected their life. Lots of things change and a bunch of them are things you wouldn't even consider.

We at Ortegon Prosthodontics care deeply for your continued oral health and want you to understand how important it is to replace teeth that are lost or may need replacement in the future.

Why Replace Lost Teeth?

There are so many reasons to replace lost teeth. The most obvious reason to replace a lost tooth is to be able to eat as you normally would. Tooth loss can mean a serious change in what you are able to eat, all of a sudden some of your favorite foods can be painful to chew.

Your speech can be affected by tooth loss and so can your self-confidence. When you smile, people notice you have lost a tooth and often people report that they smile less because of it.

What Makes an Implant Special?

Dental implants offer a few big bonuses over other removable prostheses. The first is the oral health bonus. A dental implant is surgically placed in the jaw bone and is accepted into the bone. Just like a real tooth, a dental implant gives the bone the tactile feedback it needs to maintain healthy levels of bone. If the bone doesn't receive that feedback, it will start to recede.

The other big benefit of a dental implant is that it's permanent. Removable prostheses have to be removed to eat and during sleep and special care must be given to them. Once a dental implant is placed, it can act as a normal tooth, chewing and all! Brush and floss it as you would a normal tooth.
