Bone Loss may not Pose a Problem for Dental Implants

Posted on 1/27/2016 by Sergio Ortegon
A diagram of a dental implant inside a patients mouth. If you are looking for the right way to replace missing teeth, dental implants are the right choice. However, some people are told that they are not good candidates not because they have a chronic illness, such as diabetes, alcoholism, or cancer, but because they have experienced bone loss.

The good news is that dental implants are a great choice for those with bone loss because it helps promote further bone growth, ensuring that you do not lose your facial structure as you age.

How Bone Loss is Handled

If you have bone loss, you will need bone grafting before the implants can be placed. This is a routine procedure that heals very well. Once the grafting takes, we can then surgically place the implants, or titanium screws, in order to start the process of replacing your teeth.

Once the implants take hold in your mouth and start fusing with your jawbone, your jawbone is once again stimulated and able to regrow. This means that it will be just like when you had your natural teeth and the best news is that no one will be the wiser!

If you are worried about bone loss and your ability to get dental implants, come talk to us. We will help you determine if bone grafting will be a good solution for you. If it is, you could be well on the road to obtaining dental implants and perfecting your smile!
